Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain

After months of going on an Anthony Bourdain binge, I decided to check out his published works. What's not to love about this guy? He is apparently fearless, he finds humor in everything, and his passport is beyond well-stamped. Plus, he cooks some great cuisine. I decided to read Kitchen Confidential, and I was not disappointed.

In Kitchen Confidential, Bourdain talks about his culinary career from beginning (his first discovery of exotic food, as a young child), to drug addiction, to his current place in the world of food. One of my favorite aspects of the book is his descriptions of the (crazy?) eccentric people that he worked with over the years. However, the best part to me was that he writes exactly like he speaks--you can almost hear his voice narrating every word. This was an exceptional, informative, humorous work of literature, with a few dark moments that nonetheless keep you riveted. Overall, I would recommend this book to readers of all backgrounds--aged 13 and up. Be sure to check out this book on the "We Recommend" shelf by the circulation desk on the main floor!
